MOTORISTS in Essex face long delays this morning after a two-car crash on the A12 near Witham brought the southbound side of the road to a standstill.

The accident took place in the outside lane of the London-bound carriageway between junctions 21 and 22 at about 8am but traffic remains heavy.

A silver Vauxhall Vectra and a red Citroen 2CV were involved in the collision and the driver of the Citroen had to be cut from the vehicle.

She is now at Broomfield Hospital in Chelmsford where she is receiving treatment for her injuries.

Fire crews from Chelmsford, Witham and Colchester attended the scene and police have issued an appeal for anyone with information to contact Chelmsford Road Policing Unit on 0300 3334444.
