A TRAILER carrying potatoes today caused miles of tailbacks after shedding its cargo on a major road in Suffolk.

It was being pulled by a farm vehicle when it overturned on the A12 near Woodbridge at around 3pm.

The potatoes, which belong to James Foskett Farms in Bromeswell, spilled onto the road near the roundabout with the Grundisburgh Road.

The trailer was left blocking one lane of the carriageway, but the second lane was flowing slowly.

Police placed cones around the scene and managed traffic, while farm workers retrieved the potatoes and awaited recovery of the vehicle.

The road was re-opened at around 5.15pm.
