Police were called when lorries, which were unable to use the A12, were getting stuck in a village.

Officers were sent out to deal with the traffic problems at around 8.30pm as some drivers struggled to follow the diversions.

Vehicles were getting caught up in the queues as lorries had to navigate the smaller country roads.

A police spokesman said officers had helped ease congestion which at one point meant delays of 20 minutes. The roadworks, for the Ipswich-bound carriageway, started at 7pm and are due to finish at 5am tomorrow.

The diversion vehicles should be taking is A12, to B1078, to B1069, to A1094 then back to the A12.
