A SUFFOLK-based American airman will face a court martial next week after he was charged with two separate counts of rape.
Airman Renato Sanchez Del Carpio , stationed at RAF Lakenheath, is alleged to have raped two female airmen at the base in two separate incidents within a year of each other.
Base chiefs said that Del Carpio, a medical professional with the 48th Dental Squadron, would face a court martial beginning on August 29.
Del Carpio is charged with the rape of an Airman Basic on October 28, 2005, at or near the base library, and the rape of an Airman on October 4, 2006, at or near a dormitory, according to a base spokesman.
Lakenheath spokesman, Capt Tisha Wright, said an Article 32 hearing, the military equivalent of grand-jury proceedings where a judge decides if there is enough evidence to warrant prosecution, took place in May.
