FROM Alice in Wonderland and Punch and Judy to Chariots of Fire and the London 2012 Olympic opening ceremony, this year’s Aldeburgh Carnival saw an imaginative variety of floats and fancy dress wow the judges. To see more pictures click the gallery article to the right.

Holly and Harry Seabrook won first place in the tiny tots fancy dress for those aged under six for their effort of “rowers”, while the Duerr family impressed as Punch and Judy in the class for four pedestrians in fancy dress.

The fancy dress on wheels category went to David Grudgeon and Co for Chariots of Fire, while the best decorated car class was won by the Biddlecombe family for Aldeburgh Best of British. The category for between five and 10 pedestrians in fancy dress was won by Max, Alex and George Wightman, Danielle Holmes and Amelia Kitson for Save the Bees and the class for decorated cars with trailers or small pick-ups went to Diana Payne for Alice in Wonderland. The over 10 pedestrians in fancy dress trophy went to Church Farm Caravan Park as chimney sweeps and the class for decorated lorries, large pick-ups, tractors and trailers was won by Rob Myers for Aldeburgh Opening Ceremony – which also scooped the prize for best overall vehicle in the procession.

Away from the parade the top prizes for best decorated premises went to the Fairfield Centre for Knit and Natter, Flick and Son, which celebrated 70 years of British sport, Patrick O’Connor for Diamond Jubilee and the Walton family for Opening Ceremony. Meanwhile the prize for best illuminated premises went to Luke Vinten of Seagull Cottage for Life on Mars.

Polly Plampin triumphed in the girls under 14 swimming 50 yards, while Luke Hughes won the 200-yard race and David Cook the 220- yard race. The egg boat race was won by Paul McComish, with Alex Foulds winning the innovative design award for Bradley Eggins. Jake Shelley won the mini marathon.
