THE latest stage in the multi-million pound expansion of Anglia Polytechnic University in Chelmsford has been completed.
Kevin Brush, managing director for contractors William Verry, yesterday handed over the keys for the new £8m Michael A. Ashcroft Building to Philip Knowles , the Dean of the Ashcroft International Business School, and APU Vice-Chancellor Michael Malone-Lee.
This new building will provide the premises for the new Ashford International Business School and is just one stage of the major development of the main 24-acre Rivermead campus.
Work is to start early next year on the building of a four-storey student centre, containing a refectory, bars, student support services and administration facilities. A two-storey sports centre will include badminton courts and a fitness suite. The cost of these two new buildings will total £5.5m.
APU students will benefit significantly from improvements made to their campus, and the modernisation of the site looks set to rival other universities across the country.
Mr Malone-Lee said: "With these new state-of-the-art facilities we are expecting to attract an even greater percentage of students from other parts of Britain and the rest of the world."
