A WOMAN awoke in the early hours to find arsonists had set fire to her home.

Police say the victim could have been injured or killed in the incident which happened in Bridewell Street, Clare, between 12.50am and 1.05am yesterday.

A spokeswoman for the police told how those responsible stole a wheelie bin and placed against the front door of a house and set it alight. The door of the house was damaged.

“This incident had the potential to cause injury or worse - thankfully the house was fitted with a working smoke alarm which alerted the occupant to the fire. She was unhurt and the fire was quickly extinguished,” the spokeswoman said.
