A SCHOOL has launched a programme which has been inspired by the 2012 London Olympic and Paralympic Games.

Bacton Community Middle School’s ‘Be the Best you can Be!’ programme aims to enable young people to discover and develop their potential.

The Legacy programme has been developed from last summer’s games and has received a £1,000 grant from Suffolk County Council and £400 from the PTA.

David Hemery has organised the initiative, he said: “All young people deserve our support to enable them to fulfil their dreams and ambitions.

“Every one of them has huge potential to achieve and overcome any barriers that are in their way. This is important for all our futures and we as adults need to be on their agenda and help them plan for success.”

Paralympian Wendy Smith, who represented Great Britain and Northern Ireland at the 2004 Athens Paralympic Games in wheelchair basketball, visited the school and talked to students about her life and achievements.

Alison Nicholson, head teacher, said: “I am delighted that Bacton Community Middle School will undertake the ‘Be the Best you can Be!’ programme.

“Meeting Wendy Smith was inspirational and I believe the benefits of this programme will enhance and further underpin the pupils’ aspirations. I am expecting this initiative to make the school even more successful.”

Bacton Community Middle School is one of the first Suffolk schools to take up the initiative.
