PETERBOROUGH racer Kenneth Bjerre believes his bargain average has given Panthers a massive boost as they bid to bring the Elite League title back to the East of England Showground.

PETERBOROUGH racer Kenneth Bjerre believes his bargain average has given Panthers a massive boost as they bid to bring the Elite League title back to the East of England Showground.

The pint-sized Dane came in for criticism from sections of the Peterborough support for failing to reproduce his stunning Grand Prix form in Britain.

Bjerre, who finished eighth in his World Championship debut season, admits he could not fathom why he was unable to produce his best in Panthers colours last term.

But after he ended the season on a 7.69 average, his club have also been able to sign Niels-Kristian Iversen, Lewis Bridger and Troy Batchelor to form a formidable top four for 2010.

The Esbjerg-born racer is certain fans will see a big improvement from these riders and is determined to find his best form in the UK.

He said: “I always try to do my best but it didn't work out in the British league. Hopefully I can do it better next year.

“I don't think anything went wrong and I don't know why I didn't score more points. There are so many meetings over the year, though, and it's hard to be the best every time.

“Of course, it can be better for the team if you don't have such a high average, and it has worked out better for Peterborough.

“There needs to be experience and there need to be young guys, and everyone needs to put points on their average. So I'm sure it's a good team we've put together and I'm looking forward to riding in it.”

While Bjerre knows fellow countryman Iversen very well, having raced with him at the club in 2007 and last season, the SGP star is confident Bridger and Batchelor will thrive in their new surroundings.

Australian Championship runner-up Batchelor has joined Panthers on a full transfer from Swindon, but spent the end of last term on loan at Ipswich. Meanwhile, Bridger joins after spending four straight seasons with Eastbourne.

Bjerre believes a change of scenery will benefit the British Under-21 champion in particular.

He said: “Troy is racing in Poland, Sweden and Britain, so he has plenty of experience, and Lewis is one of the young British guys who are coming up to the next step. I think it could be a good move for him to try something different in Britain.

“If you're stuck and don't move further forward, it's always good to try new challenges and new team mates. I think it could be a good year for him in Britain, and Poland too if he gets some more meetings there.”
