A tribute to disco pop icons The Bee Gees has been announced as the headline act for this year’s ‘Gig in the Garden’.

The sixth annual charity festival, based in Mendlesham, will take place on July 7 and 8 in aid of Action Medical Research.

Headlining the main stage on Saturday night will be the UK Bees Gees, a trio formed in 1990 who have toured across Europe, America and Asia.

The act will be joined by a number of Suffolk-based or born artists including Elephant in the Room, Hot Tramp and Ady Johnson.

Lucy Hynes, Action Medical Research’s Community Fundraising Manager for the region, said: “We’re so excited to be returning to Mendlesham and to be there for two days is an added bonus!

“Since we started organising this festival back in 2013, we’ve raised around £45,000 for Action which is just incredible!

“If you’re a fan of live music, you’ll love Gig in the Garden; there’s plenty to do for all the family with children’s entertainment, bouncy castles and of course plenty of refreshments.”

Action Medical Research has been funding medical breakthroughs since it began in 1952, including helping to introduce the first polio vaccines in the UK, developing the use of ultrasound in pregnancy and testing the rubella vaccine.

The charity is currently funding research into conditions including asthma, prematurity, epilepsy, meningitis, cerebral palsy, and brain cancer.
