MILDENHALL have signed Sheffield-based racer James Birkinshaw for the rest of the season as they look to strengthen the team for the rest of the National League and Trophy campaign.

The 29-year-old rider to make way is David Mason who has been released after a difficult first season at West Row. Team manager John Adams said: “David has struggled this season for one reason or another and his average has dropped significantly but I would like to wish him well he is a good guy and I am sure he will get fixed up soon enough and would like to thank him for his efforts this year.”

Birkinshaw who was racing for Premier League Birmingham last season comes in on an 8.42 average and makes his debut for the team at arch rivals Kings Lynn of Friday night.

Adams said: “James has invested in new machinery and is very keen to ride for Mildenhall and I am sure the supporters will be pleased with the signing and welcome him to West Row, he is looking forward to making his debut on Friday and I am sure there will be plenty of Mildenhall fans making the short trip to Saddlebow Road to cheer us on hopefully to victory as we are determined to end the season in fine style.”
