The fire was in a three-bed property this morning

A block of flats in north-east Essex was evacuated after a fire broke out tonight.

Two fire engines were called to the blaze in a ground-floor flat in a three-storey building in Rayne Road, Braintree at around 7pm.

The fire was extinguished and under control by 7.35pm and there were no reported injuries. Firefighters also used a thermal imaging camera to check for hot spots.

A cause of the blaze and further details about the incident were not issued by the Essex County Fire and Rescue Service.
