TWO pensioners in their 90s were challenged by a bogus caller in their living room who claimed he was meant to be cutting down a tree before stealing cash from the startled couple.
Police are hunting the distraction burglar following the incident in broad daylight in Field Road, Mildenhall.
The man entered the property, through an unlocked front door, and then entered the living room where the elderly occupants were sitting.
He asked the pair for money to cut down a tree and when the victim's back was turned, the man stole a wallet containing a quantity of cash.
He then left the property and drove off in a dirty white open-back truck in the direction of the RAF Mildenhall airbase, said a police spokesman who also appealed for residents to be extra vigilant.
The man has been described as white, aged between 60 and 64 years old, of thick set with dark curly hair.
Anyone with information about the incident, which happened sometime between 11am and noon on February 26, should contact DC Andrea French at Mildenhall CID on 01284 774100 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
