Two men have been charged with firearms offences following searches of a property in Woodbridge.

Both men were charged with possession of a disguised firearm – namely a walking stick – and possession of a shortened shotgun.

A forensic scene had been in place at a property in Bridgewood Road, Woodbridge, over the weekend.

One local resident said they had seen “lots of forensic activity” taking place around a tent in the front garden of a house since Saturday morning.

Police said the searches were part of an ongoing investigation.

Two men were arrested and taken into custody for questioning at Martlesham Heath police investigation centre.

A 24-year-old man and a 54-year-old man have since been charged with firearms offences.

A spokesman for Suffolk Constabulary said: “Police executed a search warrant at an address in Bridgewood Road, Woodbridge, in connection with an ongoing investigation.”

Later on Sunday morning, police confirmed two men had been charged as part of the investigation.

A spokesman said: “Police have charged two people in connection with firearms offences in Woodbridge.

“It follows a police search warrant conducted at an address on Bridgewood Road, in Woodbridge, on Friday, October 16. It also follows a licence visit and check on October 15 to the same premises.

“58-year-old Crispen Richards, of Bridgewood Road, in Woodbridge, was charged early this morning, Sunday, October 18, with possession of a disguised firearm – namely a walking stick – and possession of a shortened shotgun in contravention of section 4(1) of the Firearms Act 1968.

“24-year-old Philip Richards, of the same address, was also charged with the same two offences.

“They have been remanded to appear before Suffolk Magistrates’ Court tomorrow, Monday, October 18.

“Enquiries are ongoing and police remain at the scene to continue their investigations at the property.”
