A Suffolk couple who admitted council tax fraud after failing to declare changes in circumstances have been sentenced at court.

Jennifer Scott, 39, and Damien Lyth, 28, both of Priors Avenue, Bury St Edmunds, fraudulently received £3,338 from St Edmundsbury Borough Council in overpaid council tax benefit.

The couple, who appeared at Ipswich Magistrates’ Court today, pleaded guilty to failing to declare changes in circumstances contrary to the council tax reduction scheme.

Scott was sentenced to a nine-month community order with curfew for three months between the hours of 10pm and 5am and six days rehabilitation activity.

She was also ordered to pay £287 costs and £85 victim surcharge.

Lyth was sentenced to a 12-month community order with 100 hours unpaid work and 10 hours rehabilitation activity. He was also ordered to also pay £287 costs and £85 victim surcharge.
