Burglars have smashed their way into a Post Office and stolen more than £1,100 worth of goods including cigarettes, scratch cards and cash.
The alarm of the Post Office in Lake Avenue, Bury St Edmunds, went off at about 12.30am this morning (Tuesday May 21).
Police including the dog unit arrived within about 10minutes but the criminals had fled the scene.
A force spokesman said: “A glass window panel was smashed at the front. The alarm was activated and police and the dog unit attended. But they were not able to trace anyone after a search of the area.”
A couple of till trays containing about £100 in cash, packets of cigarettes worth £800 and £200 worth of scratch cards were stolen.
The till trays are worth about £60 on their own. The damage caused to the window panel is about £150.
Police are appealing for anyone with information to call them on 101.
