Suffolk pedigree sheep breeders have expressed delight at the winning form of one of their home-bred ewes.

A Suffolk shearling ewe from the Partridge family’s Kersey Flock, which previously scooped this year’s female champion title at the Suffolk Show in May, took the Champion Suffolk Sheep award at the Tendring Show on July 14.

A trimmed ram lamb from the same flock was reserve champion.

Chris said: “We were delighted to win the championship at Tendring this year in the face of some strong opposition. We have been fortunate to win it about five times in the last 10 years.”

The Kersey flock, established in 1927, and based at Bridges Farm, Kersey, near Hadleigh, is one of the oldest flocks of Suffolk Sheep in existence.

Judge Keith Manning from West Sussex said the champion was just the type of sheep he was looking for with length, excellent fleshing and a fine black silky head.

The shearling ewe, born in March 2017, will be put to the ram this autumn. The reserve champion ram lamb born in January has been put up for sale as a breeding ram.
