Small businesses and local authorities have the opportunity to attend a special data analytics summer school with Essex university experts.
It is time for businesses to brush up on their data analytic skills.
The event “BLG Summer School in Data Analytics: Effective Tools and Techniques” takes place at the University of Essex from July 10 to 14..
The summer school is offered by the Business and Local Government Data Research Centre which is based at the University and carries out research using the latest data analytics tools and techniques. The Centre receives government funding which enables it to provide heavily subsidised training opportunities.
The following sessions are taking place throughout the week:
Monday July 10 – An Introduction to QGIS
Tuesday July 11 - An Introduction to Agent Based Modelling (ABM)
Wednesday July 12 - An introduction to Social Network Analysis
Thursday July 13- Experimentation Process
Friday July 14- What Works? Processes and techniques for evaluating the effectiveness of interventions
Alexandra Beaumont, outreach and engagement co-ordinator at the centre, said: “We’re delighted to be offering this great training opportunity to businesses, local councils and other public sector organisations, as well as to students and academics. The sessions will be led by experts from within the Centre and other universities across the UK and have been designed to have maximum relevance to the types of challenges organisations are currently facing.
“Each session will be delivered to a small group of professionals and therefore there will also be opportunities to learn from each other and engage in debate about how the tools and techniques presented are applied in the real world.”
Attendees can choose the sessions which are most relevant to them or attend the whole week. Prices start at £25 per session for a student, £40 for public sector employees and academics or £95 for businesses. Anybody attending the whole week will receive the fifth session free.
