A Suffolk engineering firm operating in the aerospace, defence and industrial sectors is gearing up for growth after acquiring another British company.
Sudbury-based MEL Group has purchased Oldbury Engineering, a Surrey firm which, like it, specialises in aircraft ground support equipment. MEL said the deal brought “unique skills” to its capabilities in the design, manufacture and repair of civil and military aircraft ground support equipment.
Oldbury specialises in gaseous charging trolleys, portable charging kits, aircraft tow bars, wing installation equipment, aircraft jacks and fluid replenishment trolleys.
MEL managing director Gary Harvey said: “This is another key move for MEL which sees us acquire another strong British engineering business and further supports our mission to become one of the most flexible global engineering and communication solutions providers.”
The trolleys, jacks and towing equipment will enhance MEL’s already comprehensive range of quality ground support equipment and put it in “a stronger position than ever” to offer a one-stop supply service, he said.
