March was a month filled with parties, talks and competitions, as the clocks went forward and the sunshine treated us to a few appearances, just in time for a few spring lambs to join the world.

On March 17 Brentwood hosted their St Patrick’s Day party, with the barn filled with Irish flags and leprechaun costumes. Just two days later we held another squash competition and put our members to work, with Halstead boys and the Ashton & Saffron Walden girls coming out on top, well done to those who took part.

This year our county chosen charity is the Bob Champion Cancer Trust, who kindly gave us a presentation on the work they do to help fund the continued research to find a cure, thank you to those who attended the talk and to the charity founders themselves who arrived to speak for our members.

Every year our clubs select charities to fund raise for throughout the year, and this year, Essex Federation of Young Farmers Clubs has recently won a national YF award for the funds collectively raised for charity by our clubs, including Essex Air Ambulance and the Rachel Cullen Foundation. Well done everyone!

The calendar for April is already full, with parties, a charity clay shoot and our preliminary round of competitions to decide who will be going on to compete at a regional level, and who will be competing in the tug-of-war final at the Essex Young Farmers Show on May 21.
