Barnes Construction has completed a major phase of work on a major new building for Pakefield High School, near Lowesotft.
Ipswich-based Barnes Construction, which is the principal contractor for the project, has now installed and levelled the concrete slab flooring for the building, following the erection of the main steel framework.
The work was carried out over a nine-hour period with more than 100 cubic metres of ready-mixed concrete being used. It was delivered to the site by a fleet of 16 vehicles, with each pumping around six cubic metres at a time.
The new building will provide 11 new classrooms for the school, together with a new sports hall and a Multi Use Games Area (MUGA) pitch.
It represents the third and final phase of construction work create a new high school which began in 2010 and is due for completion in the summer of next year.
Now that the concrete floor slab has been laid, work will move on to the exterior cladding and roof installation to make the building watertight.
The architectural and landscape designer for the development is Concertus, whic is also based in Ipswich.
Is also acting as project manager for the scheme on behalf of its client, Suffolk Councy Council.
The first phase of construction at the school was completed in 2011, with the second phase following in 2014.
