The belated arrival of settled weather in mid-September has helped to deliver an “Indian Summer” boost for Suffolk Secrets, one of the county’s leading holiday lets businesses.

Southwold-based Suffolk Secrets says bookings during September were up 10% compared with the same month a year ago, maintaining the rate of growth achieved by the agency earlier in the summer despite decidedly mixed weather.

George Bradley, general manager at Suffolk Secrets, said: “Our figures show that Suffolk Secrets has enjoyed an Indian Summer, with people extending their holiday period by almost a month, particularly for short breaks, during September.”

However, the year-round appeal of Suffolk is underlined by the fact that the peak summer months of June to September represent a relatively modest 40% of Suffolk Secrets’ bookings.

The company has achieved strong growth during 2015 with 50 new properties having been added to its portfolio since the start of the year, taking the total to more than 450.

Predictably, bookings hotspots this year have included, in order of popularity, Southwold, Aldeburgh, and Woodbrige, with Lavenham and Long Melford also proving popular.

However, Mr Bradley said that Bury St Edmunds and its neighbouring villages appeared to represent one of the biggest potential growth areas for the company.

“Demand currently far outstrips supply in Bury St Edmunds and the surrounding area, which is great news for the savvy investor looking for a gap in the holiday market,” he added.
