The Felixstowe-based Maritime Group has acquired Aegeus Transport Ltd, the holding company for the Roadways Container Logistics business.

The deal, the value of which has not been disclosed, includes the entire company, workforce and assets of Roadways, which ranks as the fourth-largest container transport company in the UK.

“We are very excited to acquire Aegeus and Roadways,” said John Williams, group managing director of Maritime. “This is a strategic move and a really excellent fit with Maritime. Altogether the combined business will provide much greater scale, scope and services for customers.

“As a committed market leader, I believe Maritime offers the best long-term future for the business and we look forward to working with Roadways’ customers, suppliers and employees.”

Roadways has 374 employees and a fleet of 241 trucks, operating out of sites in London, Leeds, Manchester, Southampton, Felixstowe and the Birmingham Intermodal Freight Terminal (BIFT) in Tamworth.

Maritime provides a comprehensive range of services to support the international supply chain, including container transport, railport services, distribution, off-dock storage for loaded containers, container services and port-centric warehousing. Its customers include blue-chip global carriers, freight management companies and cargo owners.
