Easton and Otley College enjoyed their first Royal Norfolk Show together as a new institution by picking up a few awards after joining forces in August last year.
Agricultural learners paraded livestock and picked up best heifer in the Holstein category.
They also received reserve champion in the same competition and won best pairs in a separate Holstein class.
Floristry learners won a gold medal for their stand in the flower tent and students also received first, third and fifth in an arranging competition based on stars of the stage and screen.
Elsewhere, last year’s president of the show and principal of Easton and Otley, David Lawrence, met the current president Jake Humphrey at the college’s main marquee.
Also at the main marquee, in an industry and educational competition that was co-ordinated by the Norfolk Young Farmers, three young entrepreneurs went head to head to try and win a £5000.00 prize to help advance their agricultural businesses.
The eventual winners were Laura Potter and Lawrence Brown who set up a veal company having been inspired by an episode of the BBC show Countryfile.
They plan to spend the cash prize by developing a website for ‘Rose Veal’ whilst also constructing a new building to help expand their operation.
On winning the money – in a competition that was supported by Anglia Farmers, the CLAN Trust, Norfolk Young Farmers, the Rackham Trust, the Royal Norfolk Agricultural Association and the college, Laura from Old Buckenham in Norfolk, said: “The whole process was nerve wracking and it’s quite a shock to win. We are really excited about what this money could do for our business.”
Barclays, Birkett and the CLA judged this ‘Growing Business Award’ competition. This was the sixth year running that the competition had taken place.
