Movers and Shakers: Accountants at Lovewell Blake celebrate newly qualified status

James Cooper and Lauren Harper passed the ICAEW exams to become chartered accountants while Jemma Jackson is now a chartered certified accountant.

James, who started with Lovewell Blake in 2005, works in corporate services at Norwich while Lauren, who began her accountancy career two years later, is in the audit department at Lowestoft.

Jemma joined the firm in 2004 and is part of the corporate services team at Thetford.

Training partner Keith Shorten says the three have maintained the excellent record of Lovewell Blake students passing exams at first sitting. “They are to be congratulated on their success and have promising careers ahead of them,” he said.

IPSWICH-based EWS chartered surveyors has promoted Clare Wright and Stephen Rogers to associate director. Clare joined EWS in 2006 as a commercial sales & lettings negotiator and is now the first point of contact for the firm’s commercial estate agency activities. Stephen has been with EWS for the past five years, assisting Paul Musson in expanding the firm’s Property Management department and now overseeing a portfolio of a wide range of commercial and residential block management instructions. Clare and Stephen are both in the final stages of becoming qualified as Chartered Surveyors.

Managing director George Woodward said: “For the past four years, the UK property industry has been badly affected by the credit crunch and recession but, during that period, EWS has actually expanded its number of staff and increased its business activities.

DISS-based chartered surveyors and auctioneers TW Gaze has appointed new partner Rachael Hipperson.

Rachael Hipperson is a rural surveyor, specialising in estates management with a particular focus on marsh areas.

She joined the firm in 2004 after graduating from Harper Adams University College in Shropshire, and two years ago was made an associate partner, rural business.

Rachael, 30, said: “That is a real compliment and I’m looking forward to a long and successful future with TW Gaze and playing a role in the management and strategy decisions of the firm.”

On joining Gaze, Rachael was involved in a wide variety of roles and worked towards her exams to gain qualification as a chartered surveyor with the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) and became MRICS in 2006. Later that year she became a Fellow of the Central Association of Agricultural Valuers (FAAV).

She is honorary secretary and treasurer of the Norfolk Association of Agricultural Valuers and has been in the post for four years.

She grew up in Crownthorpe near Wymondham where her parents Jack and Angela Hipperson farm. Rachael still helps run the arable farm with her parents.

Rachael went to school in the village of Wicklewood and was later a boarder at Wymondham College. A keen sportswoman, she played Hockey for Norfolk, she still plays for Old Buckenham Ladies’ Team and enjoys skiing.

THE development of an Enterprise Zone based in Lowestoft and Great Yarmouth has stepped up a gear with the appointment of co-ordinator Eunice Edwards as part of the New Anglia Local Enterprise Partnership team.

Eunice is seconded from Suffolk County Council for six months to oversee the start-up of the Enterprise Zone, which will be launched this month.

With a business background in the private sector and experience of project co-ordination, budget management and data monitoring, she has wide-ranging skills.

She is the first point of contact for businesses wanting to learn more about the benefits of operating in the Enterprise Zone and for the government departments involved.

Miss Edwards said: “This is a really exciting opportunity and I am delighted to be part of such a committed team. I’m already in contact with interested businesses and working closely with partners involved, including Great Yarmouth Borough Council, Waveney District Council, as well as Suffolk and Norfolk County Councils.

“In addition, I’m liaising with other Enterprise Zone managers across the country to ensure we replicate some of the best ideas and practices here. I will also be monitoring the level of impact the Enterprise Zone is bringing to the economies of Lowestoft and Great Yarmouth.”

HENRIK Lund, a Danish national, has joined Ipswich-based mowing equipment makers Ransomes Jacobsen as export regional sales manager for Scandinavia and the Baltic Republics. Reporting to sales director Rupert Price, he will be responsible for business development, equipment sales and dealer support across Denmark, Finland, Norway, Sweden and the Baltic Republics.

Henrik has a business and marketing degree from Handelshojskole Syd in Esbjerg and began his working life at Viking Lifesaving Equipment in Denmark, rising through the ranks to become managing director of the Swedish subsidiary company based in Stockholm. He then moved to a Danish paint manufacturer, Dyrup A/S, as sales manager for Denmark, Finland, Norway and Sweden.

Before taking up his position with Ransomes Jacobsen, he was the owner of Scanbul Trading, a golf distribution company, based in Varna, Bulgaria marketing various golf-related products including the Ransomes, Jacobsen and E-Z-GO brands.

At present Henrik lives near Varna, with his wife Antoaneta and their three young children. The family will be relocating to Denmark in the near future.

Mr Price said: “Henrik has wide business experience, as an employee, senior manager and proprietor of his own business. For the past two years he has been marketing our products in the Balkans so comes with excellent product knowledge. He will be yet another great addition to the sales team here at Ransomes Jacobsen, as we look to aggressively target the northern European market, going forward.”

ESSEX-based law firm Fisher Jones Greenwood LLP has expanded its expert knowledge base by engaging Stephen Harvey QC as a consultant to the firm.

He has been a practising barrister since 1979, taking Silk in 2006 and is ranked as a leading Silk in the prestigious Chambers & Partners legal directory. Based in the Temple in the heart of legal London, he specialises in all areas of criminal law, particularly serious crime (including bribery and corruption) and regulatory matters.

PARTNERSHIP member Ellen Petersen has been promoted to head up the commercial real estate team at Fisher Jones Greenwood LLP.

The move will see partnership member Mike Theeman continue to focus on heading the residential conveyancing team and the two teams will work closely together to ensure a top class service is provided for all clients.

In conjunction with the firm’s new office in Central London, the move will ensure that property expertise is available at all the firm’s office locations.

Ellen said: “I am extremely excited about the future prospects of the commercial real estate team and look forward to stepping into Mike’s shoes and the new challenges that this role will bring.
