Train services provider Greater Anglia is installing LED lighting at stations across its network in a bid to reduce its carbon footprint.
The operator, which runs services across Suffolk and Essex, has already replaced lighting at more than 80 stations as part of a £1.7m investment, and over the coming months, it will be added in 24 more.
Asset management director Simone Bailey said: “We do all we can do reduce our impact on the environment and this is the latest scheme to tackle our carbon footprint. We aim to install LED lighting at all of the stations we manage. This will help save energy, create a more pleasant atmosphere for our customers and improve safety and security.”
The firm has invested £65,000 in LED lighting at its Clacton depot. It is also bringing in a fleet of new trains with air conditioning, plug and USB points and fast free wifi, and has installed free water refill points at Ipswich, Chelmsford and Cambridge.
