Angels Beauty Clinic carried off the top prize at the Businesses of Saxmundham (Bos) Customer Service Awards.

The salon, based in the High Street, picked up the Business of the Year title, ahead of cafe/tea room Trinity’s at No 14, Heavenly Hair Styling and fashion and gifts retailer The Store.

In joint fifth place were Jackey L Jewellers, Jeffrey & Associates Opticians, Olive Dental Practice, web design and marketing agency Rade Digital and wealth management firm Persell Ewart.

The Individual of the Year award went to Karen Baker of Trinity’s at No 14, with the other finalists including Janene Hawkins from Heavenly Hair Styling, Sam Martin and Rachel Newton, both from Angels Beauty Clinic, and Peter Ewart from Persell Ewart.

The awards were open to businesses within the IP17 post code area, with a total of 28 businesses being nominated and more than 230 votes being cast, mostly via the BoS website.

The awards, last run in 2014, were presented during an event at Bruisyard Hall, near Framlingham, which included a Pimms reception, a barbecue from Saxmundham catering firm Heathcote & Hare and tastings of cheese and wine supplied by the local branch of Waitrose.

Peter Ewart, chair of BoS, welcomed guests to the evening and thanked Paul Rous and the team at Bruisyard Hall for staging the event.

He also praised members of the BoS committee for their work on all aspects of the association’s activities, but particularly the Customer Service Awards.

This included Lin Barnes, secretary, Carl Page, treasurer, Shelley Nott, vice-chair (who designed all the posters and the trophies) and Jake Barton (who overssees all web based activity”.

Thanks also went to Tish King from Rade Digital, who was presented with a bouquet for her work on social media to raise the profile of BoS and the awards throughout the year, and to Waitrose, which sponsored the awards as well as supplying the cheese and wine.

The presentation ceremony was jointly hosted by Scott Russell, of cofffee company Paddy and Scotts, and Miles Beasley, manager at Waitrose.

Scott Russell said: “I am truly proud of Saxmundham and the businesses represented here tonight. It is really hard to win awards like these and the winners should be justly proud of their achievement.”

One other winner on the night was a lucky voter who was chosen at randowm to receive a £100 Waitrose voucher.
