Colchester-based training specialist Helmsman Services has secured the largest contract in its 17 year history, for its construction-specific e-learning health and safety courses.

Construction services group ISG asked Helmsman to set up a suite of e-learning for one of its largest construction projects based in Europe, to ensure that everyone on site undertakes basic health and safety training and to offer a variety of other courses on a voluntary basis.

Guy Fairweather, head of ISG’s learning academy, said: “ Setting up an e-learning academy for the site ensures all operatives have consistent and high-quality health and safety training, and this free service provides access to a huge range of learning resources, which means we also give something back to the wider construction industry.”

Craig Hendleman, business development manager for Helmsman e-Learning, added: “We were approached by ISG who were impressed at our speed of reaction to their requirement, which was not just for a suite of e-learning subjects but parts of it had to be offered in four languages.

“The whole system was set up and ready to launch in two weeks and we are now looking at offering the package to other major contractors.”

Helmsman uses high-impact, video-based courses, many being RoSPA-approved and all designed to bring home the impact of working safely. Any construction company can offer on-line training to their staff as it saves time, money and can be operated by anyone who has an internet connection and who can control a smartphone or TV remote control.
