British Airways is to launch a weekly service between Stansted Airport and Berlin from May 28.

The news comes just a month after BA announced its first-ever flights from Stansted, involving summer services to holiday destinations Faro, Malaga, Palma and Ibiza.

The extra service will be operated with an additional Embraer 190 jet which is to be based at London City Airport, from where BA will also be launching new services to Berlin and Hamburg.

Each way hand baggage only fares from Stansted to Berlin are available from £35 on www.ba.com .

Luke Hayhoe, British Airways’ general manager commercial and customer at London City, said: “Germany is a very important market for us and these new routes give both our business and leisure customers a much wider choice of destinations. .

“We are also delighted to take delivery of our 20th Embraer, an aircraft which is very popular with our customers for its comfort, style and low noise and emissions levels.”

Although the five routes due to start in May will mark the first time that BA-branded passenger flights have operated from Stansted, the airport is already the UK hub for IAG Cargo, the freight division of BA’s parent company, International Airlines Group.
