BRITISH Sugar has announced its 2011/12 sugar beet campaign start dates.

The firm, which has plants at Bury St Edmunds, Wissington, Newark and Cantley, said it had consulted with growers on the proposed factory start dates for the 2011/12 campaign, and confirmed the start date would be Wednesday, September 14, for all four sites.

Colm McKay, British Sugar’s Agriculture Director, said: “Our growers are keen to make an early start to this year’s harvesting, as conditions are favourable following recent rainfall, which has helped offset the effects of an exceptionally dry period during the spring.”
