HADLEIGH Farmers Agricultural Society has elected its first woman chair.
Nicola Currie, regional director of Country Land and Business Association (CLA) East lives at Hitcham. Her deputy is Kersey farmer, Chris Partridge and Janie Barbiaux is secretary.
“The society was founded in 1839,” said Mrs Currie. “Through the intervening 172 years it has upheld its strong, traditional agricultural roots. At the same time it has reached out to succeeding generations, and that is why it is in such good heart today with plenty of new young people becoming involved.
“The same approach is taken to Hadleigh Show, which the society holds in May, and why it remains so popular when, sadly, so many shows have closed.”
