The award-winning Great House restaurant and hotel at Lavenham, one of the best known restaurant businesses in East Anglia, has a new owner.

It has been sold through specialist business property adviser, Christie & Co, for un undisclosed sum, off an asking price of £1.375m, to Dominique Tropeano, whose family also owns Colchester Zoo.

The Great House is situated in the centre of Lavenham which is well known for its picturesque and historic half-timber framed medieval properties with some 300 listed buildings still in existence.

The Great House itself is a landmark 14th Cntury fully refurbished Grade ll* listed property.

Its restaurant offers some 55 covers internally and a further 20 outside. It also offers accommodation in five letting rooms which overlook the beautifully preserved Market Square.

Family-owned by Regis and Martine Crepy since the 1980s, the restaurant and hotel have won numerous awards and accolades over the years.

It has been included in The Sunday Times’ Top 100 Restaurants since 2011, scored a perfect ‘5’ in the 2017 Good Food Guide, has an exceptional rating ‘5-5-4’ from Hardens and has the AA 2017 Inspector’s Choice & Gold Awards.

Director Tim Gooding of Christie & Co’s Ipswich office who handled the sale said; “The sale of The Great House represents the strong market in East Anglia for thriving businesses.

“The property has been sold to Dominique Tropeano, a longstanding customer of the business, and well known as the owner of Colchester Zoo. We wish him and the vendors all the best with their respective new ventures.”
