Logistics specialist Velta International Freight Management has become the latest operator to adopt a cloud-based management system developed by East Bergholt-based Fargo Systems.

Witham-based Velta has implemented Fargo’s TOPS (Transport Operations & Processing Systems) package to improve efficiencies across its container booking system.

It will be using TOPS as an interface with a number of subcontractors which are already on the TOPS platform, with the cloud system offering a range of benefits including ease of installation, use of Fargo’s servers (with no additional hardware required) and increased functionality.

Greg Barr, logistics manager at Velta, said: “In an industry that is fast-moving and dependent upon efficiency, it is clear that a reliable management system is a must. Following the integration of the TOPS system, I can say with confidence that it is unmatched in terms of operational efficiency.”

Fargo, a member of the EADT’s Future50 listing of up-and-coming businesses with high growth potential, is a leading supplier of softrware to the container haulage industry, with TOPS being used to manages around 3million container moves each year.

It is available on an “off-the-shelf” basis, or it can be customised to include a range of bespoke modules, with customers include shipping lines, rail operators, road hauliers and third party logistics providers in more than 16 countries spanning three continents.

Besides TOPS, Fargo also offers TOPS on the go, an integrated solution for smartphones, tablets, and other mobile devices with GPS tracking, job order despatch, electronic proof-of-deliveries, defect reporting and other admin tasks, CYMAN, Container Yard or Intermodal Terminal management, and CCC, a collaborative online information and transaction exchange.
