Energy giant E.on is seeking to shed up to 500 jobs through voluntary redundancy.

The firm, based in the West Midlands, used to have a strong presence in Ipswich but pulled out of the town a few years ago and very few jobs now remain in East Anglia. Those which do, on the renewables side, are unaffected.

The firm said it wants to cut numbers in its UK support functions following the sale of its distribution arm, Central Networks, in March. The main impact of the job cuts will be at the head office in Coventry, and offices near Nottingham.
