Woodbridge-based business improvement consultant Julian Rains originally set up his company in 2006, but relaunched this year with the aim of marketing his services to prospective clients in the region.

Julian Rains Business Consulting specialises in business analysis to help companies identify valuable improvements and then to implement them. Typically they’re operational improvements aimed at increasing productivity or changing scale.

He joined Anderson Consulting (now Accenture) straight after leaving Southampton University and stayed there until deciding to go freelance in 2006 - a process that has not been without challenges.

“Now our customers have come mainly through third parties such as agents and other consulting businesses,” he said. “I can’t pretend it was easy. But someone told me that taking the first step is the hardest bit and so far I certainly think that’s been true.”
