The former British Larder restaurant at Bromeswell, near Wooodbridge, is to reopen next month under a new identity.

Former owners Madalene Bonvini-Hamel and Ross Pike, who launched The British Larder in 2010 at what was previously the Cherry Tree pub, closed the venue in February in order to focus on their online food and recipe website www.britishlarder.co.uk .

Following a substantial investment, new owner Brendan Padfield now plans to re-open the restaurant from the start of April as The Unruly Pig, under the direction of head chef David Wall.

The transformation has included the installation of an “Inka” oven, which cooks at temperatures of more than 400 degrees to deliver authentic charcoal-grilled flavours.

Mr Wall has extensive experience in high-end restaurants, most recently at Le Talbooth in Dedham and before that in London, at Bibendum and two of Gordon Ramsey’s establishments.

“The approach we’re taking at The Unruly Pig is simple: no intimidating pretensions,” he said. “It’s all about using the best quality seasonal and local produce and letting the ingredients speak for themselves to deliver a high quality food offering.”

The menu is described as offering “everything from light bites and sharing plates to a full four-course dinner” while, alongside a list of more than 20 wines, the restaurant will offer hand-pulled Woodforde’s Wherry bitter, Aspall cider, bottled craft beers, cocktails and home-made cordials.

Mr Padfield said: “Our vision is to provide exceptional food, great wines, craft beers and really friendly service in a fun and relaxed atmosphere.

“Essentially we’ve reinvented the classic British hostelry in a modern context, combining time-honoured features such as cosy log burners and original oak beams with modern conveniences such as free WiFi.”
