Ipswich butcher branches out with new store in Felixstowe

Ipswich-based Orwells Butchers has opened a new store in Felixstowe, following a £157,000 funding package from NatWest.
Owner Martin Wells has decided to expand the business with the purchase of an additional premises on Walton High Street in Felixstowe.
The loan from NatWest has supported the purchase of the freehold building which has now been transformed into a fully equipped butchers shop.
Previously known as the Meat Inn, Orwells Butchers opened in 1987 on Carr Street, Ipswich.
Martin started his career at the Meat Inn as an apprentice sausage maker. Following a brief relocation to develop his butchery skills, he returned to the business in 1992 as a store manager.
Three years later he purchased the store from its original owners, reopening the business as Orwells Butchers.
Martin hopes to replicate the success of the Ipswich store in Felixstowe with Orwells now employing five people across the two sites.

Martin said: “With the popularity of the shop, expansion has always been on the cards but it wasn’t until I spotted the freehold in Felixstowe that I seriously began to consider it. With the help of NatWest, I’ve been able to access the finance needed to take advantage of the opportunity to expand and turn my business dream into a reality.”
