A hair-raising ride which has proved a big hit at the Suffolk Show is back on the dirt track.
Suffolk Land Rover Owners Club is gearing up for its annual off-road roller-coaster at the show, and is aiming to raise thousands of pounds for local charities.
Each year around 60 club members provide their vehicles, fuel and time free of charge to offer thousands of thrill-seeking show-goers an exciting 4x4 off-road experience.
Last year, the club raised more than £14,000 for four local charities, £10,000 of which was donated across the two-day show. This year, all proceeds will go towards the Suffolk branch of Parkinson’s UK as well as a small local charity BikeActive, offering bike rides every week for disabled adults on specially adapted bicycles around Alton Water reservoir near Ipswich.
At this year’s event, which takes place on May 30 and 31, a wide variety of vehicles will motor around a specially-constructed course, which is now a permanent installation at Trinity Park showground in Ipswich. Vehicles will include Defenders, Discoveries, Range Rovers and 101s, many of which are ex-armed forces or especially modified. Visitors of all ages and abilities are welcome to enjoy a ride.
Club chairman Andy Jeff said they were looking forward to taking part again.
“It is a brilliant opportunity for members to showcase their driving passion and skill, all whilst raising an incredible amount for local causes,” he said. “We’d like to thank Suffolk Show visitors for their generosity in supporting our charities and to all who make our Land Rover experience possible. We would just like to re-iterate that all monies collected are passed directly to the charities. Everyone you meet are volunteers and donate their time, vehicles and fuel free of charge.”
Show director Bee Kemball said: “We’re delighted to welcome back the Suffolk Land Rovers Club, who are a popular favourite at the Suffolk Show each year. As well as offering visitors an exciting off-road experience, it’s fantastic that the club is able to raise such amazing amounts of money for local charities.”
