London mayor Sadiq Khan has invited the National Farmers’ Union (NFU) deputy president Minette Batters to become a member of the London Food Board.

The role, which is part-time, runs to the end of the mayoral term in May 2020.

“I am delighted to be joining the London Food Board, which is instrumental in delivering and defining the new Food Strategy for London,” said Mrs Batters. “As a board member I will be joining a team of highly respected businessmen and women to effect real change and help address London’s food challenges and opportunities. The London Food Board provides guidance and direction, tackling important issues such as food poverty, health, environmental impacts and food businesses.”

The board advises the mayor and the Greater London Authority on food matters and on the development and delivery of a new 2017 Mayoral London Food Strategy.
