A Suffolk engineer has been elected as the first female regional chair of the Chartered Institute of Building Services Engineers (CIBSE).
Nicola Booth, who works for Concertus Design & Property Consultants in Ipswich as a senior mechanical engineer, was elected as chair of CIBSE East Anglia having previously been its honorary secretary.
Nicola, who has spent eight years on the regional committee, will be responsible for drumming up support for the region’s activities.
As well as attending committee meetings, she will also represent the region at CIBSE headquarters and be an ex-officio member of the Regional Liaison Committee and CIBSE Council.
Nicola is an MCIBSE accredited engineer with 13 years of experience in the construction industry. The projects she has delivered cover a wide range of sectors including commercial, education, healthcare, residential and leisure. She is passionate about education and keen to make schoolchildren aware of the options available to them in building services. She often leads workshops in schools and visits careers events such as the Suffolk Skills Show, an event she attends on behalf of CIBSE every year.
“I am honoured to have been asked by the past chairman to undertake this role. I’m looking forward to building the committee’s strength and focusing on services for our members and future engineers who are training in our local colleges and universities,” she said.
Stradbroke-based pet food firm Skinner’s has appointed a nutritional consultant.
Dr Jaqueline Boyd joins the Skinner’s team after nearly 11 years at Nottingham Trent University as a lecturer in animal and equine science.
She spent 25 years studying and working in animal science and will ensure Skinner’s products have a thorough theoretical and practical base.
“I feel hugely privileged to join Skinner’s at what is clearly an exciting time for the company,” she said. “I am passionate about animal health.”
Colchester-based solicitors Fisher Jones Greenwood (FJG) has expanded its family team with the appointment of new partner Melanie Wilson.
Melanie has more than 30 years’ experience, in all aspects of family law, including divorce, separation, financial settlements and matters relating to children.
Managing partner Paula Fowler said: “Melanie is highly regarded in her field. The wealth of expertise that she will bring to FJG and the family team will be key to its continuing success.”
Chelmsford-based offshore engineering firm Global Marine Group has appointed Simon Hibberd as managing director of its joint venture, S B Submarine Systems.
Simon, who began his role on May 4, brings vast industry experience, having worked for the firm since 1988.
He worked on the company’s cable ships, rising to the rank of commander and completed landmark fibre-optic and cable projects. He has headed up the fleet and global technical sales.
Business lobby group the CBI has appointed Richard DeNetto as its new assistant regional director in the East of England.
Richard joins the CBI from regional recruitment firm Whitehill Pelham, where he was business manager.
He was responsible for running the business and recruiting HR and operations people into management and director level roles for organisations of all sizes in the region.
He is “delighted” to have been appointed, he said.
Woodbridge-based nursing home Haughgate House has welcomed a new home manager.
Judith Morgan-Worrall originally joined the Healthcare Homes Group, based in Colchester, in 2014 as interim manager at Foxgrove residential home in Felixstowe.
She then took on the full registered manager role for both Foxgrove and neighbouring home Maynell House and stayed in post until June 2017. She returned to the firm in 2018.
She said she was “delighted” to become manager of the home.
