AIR Berlin today launched its eighth direct connection to Germany from Stansted with a new twice-daily service to Munich.

Flights to Munich - with fares starting from £24 one-way, including tax - will depart London Stansted at 8.20 am and 7.15 pm Monday to Friday; with single daily departures on Saturday's and Sunday's.

“Air Berlin is firmly established as one of the market leaders in the low-fare airline industry and we're delighted to see them extend their connections into Germany,” said Nick Barton, business development and planning director at Stansted Airport.

“Munich is an extremely popular leisure destination and also a key link for business passengers with the city regarded as the economic centre of southern Germany and home to the European and German headquarters of many worldwide companies, including Microsoft, BMW and Siemens A.G.

“With Munich recognised as an international centre for the biotechnology, software and financial service industries and Stansted on the doorstep of the hi-tech industries around Cambridgeshire and close to the City of London and Canary Wharf, it's clear Air Berlin's new service linking the two regions will be of equal importance to both German and UK business and leisure passengers alike.”

Titus Johnson, Air Berlin's manager for UK and Ireland, added: “Munich will be our eighth link into Germany from Stansted and joins a network that includes direct connections to Berlin, Düsseldorf, Hanover, Leipzig, Munster, Nuremberg and Paderborn.

“And with links direct links to Air Berlin hubs from Stansted, passengers can connect easily onto our large route network which operates over 350 flights a day in more than 90 airports across Germany, Spain, Portugal, Scandinavia, Italy, Hungary, Switzerland, and North Africa.”
