Needham Market-based utility company BTS has expanded its in-house capability with the acquisition of traffic management specialist TMS.

As a provider of overhead power line and tree management services, BTS often needs to make temporary road closures and to control traffic during operations to ensure public safety.

TMS, which is based in Ipswich, currently carries out around third of BTS’s traffic management work, and this is expected to increase to 100% over the coming months, giving BTS greater control over the delivery of its services.

BTS managing director Halley McCallum said: “Having an in-house traffic management facility will enable us to operate more efficiently, safely and deliver better value to our clients.”

Pete Ryland, director at TMS, added: “We are excited to join the BTS Group and will enjoy exploring new opportunities while continuing to deliver successful operations together”.

The acquisition of TMS brings another 20 staff into the BTS workforce, which already stands at more than 600.

BTS also has its own scaffolding operation, OBO, which it aquired in January last year, and maintains and services its own fleet of 300 vehicles.
