Camomile Cottage, a 16th Century farmhouse set in the countryside near Eye, was awarded “quirkiest character” in this year’s Dorset Cereals B&B Awards.

Aly Kahane, who runs the B&B with her husband Tim, said: “We were thrilled with the award, especially as there was such stiff competition”.

Writers Carole King and Arianna Trapani from interiors blog Heart Home secretly visited and judged three shortlisted B&Bs in the category.

Ms King said Camomile Cottage was “absolutely beautiful”.

“Set in the picturesque Suffolk countryside, the 500 year-old building has been decorated in a charmingly traditional manner and Aly (the owner) really makes you feel at home,” she added.

“It has all of the mod cons you could wish for but has retained its authenticity, and we could have happily holed up in front of the log burner, eating home-made cake forever.”

Aisling Syme, Brand Manager at Dorset Cereals, said: “B&Bs play a vital role in British culture and we believe it’s really important to pay homage to this.

“This year’s awards saw again hundreds of entries and the competition was extremely close, with just five overall winners being presented with their award and bespoke prize.

“The way a B&B is decorated can make it a home from home – Camomile Cottage creates the perfect escape for travellers so we’re thrilled to award them with the ‘quirkiest character’ award.”

Other categories in the awards included: best overall; breakfast like no other; friendliest host and dog’s best friend.

Each winner received £1000 worth of prizes as well as their coveted B&B Award to place proudly for guests to see!
