PLANTSMAN Peter Buckles has scooped a Royal Horticultural Society long service medal after notching up 40 years.

Mr Buckles, who started out as a nursery apprentice, moved to Nottcutts Garden Centre at Woodbridge in 1979 as planteria supervisor, and is now planteria manager.

“My job is so varied that I don't have time to be bored,” he said. “I particularly enjoy dealing with the public and helping them with their choice of plants.”

Garden centre managing director Michael Cole described the milestone as “a very special achievement”.
