Passengers travelling from Ipswich rail station can relax in style before their journeys, thanks to the newly refurbished waiting rooms.

Abellio Greater Anglia upgraded both waiting rooms at the station thanks to backing from Access for All, a funding programme by National Rail to improve access and mobility at rail stations.

Among the improvements to the waiting room on Platform 3 are push-button automatic doors and seating which are compliant with the Disability Discrimination Act, a new train departure screen, air-conditioning, CCTV and new flooring and sofas.

The First Class lounge on Platform 2 has also been overhauled with the same facilities.

Alan Trett, area customer service manager for Abellio Greater Anglia, said: “We are delighted with the results of the improvement work and passenger feedback has been very positive so far.

“Investing in upgrades to stations across the network is extremely important to Abellio Greater Anglia, demonstrating our commitment to providing excellent facilities and service to our customers.”

Further improvement work is set to take place later this year with a redesign of the station forecourt for better bus and taxi access, as well as improvements to the booking area, thanks to funding from the National Stations Improvement Programme.
