SIFELANI Chikunya, a lecturer in animal science at Writtle College, Chelmsford, has been awarded a bursary worth £4,000 which will fund a technical exchange to Cornell University in New York state.

SIFELANI Chikunya, a lecturer in animal science at Writtle College, Chelmsford, has been awarded a bursary worth £4,000 which will fund a technical exchange to Cornell University in New York state.

Mr Chikunya was awarded The Farmers' Club Charitable Trust Bursary for 2008, which includes honorary membership of the club for the year.

He will be based at the American university's Department of Animal Science with world renowned expert in the field of lipid research, Professor Dale Bauman and his team.

“The award will be beneficial in many respects,” said Mr Chikunya.

“It will enhance our knowledge and expertise in advanced lipid analysis techniques, which will benefit our current research in this area in the Centre of Equine and Animal Science at Writtle College, as well as widen research available to support student dissertations at BSc, MSc and PhD levels.”

He will also be using his award to attend a joint annual conference of the American Dairy Science Association and the American Society of Animal Science.
