STANSTED Airport achieved a second consecutive month of growth in passenger numbers during April, its new owner has reported

Manchester Airports Group (MAG), which acquired Stansted from the former BAA group at the end of February, said the Essex airport handled 1.559million passengers in April, an increase of 3.1% compared with the same month a year ago.

The increase, which follows growth of 3.8% in March, means that Stansted’s rolling annual total is now just 1.4% down at 17.563m, against a shortfall of 2.8% three months ago.

Stansted’s cargo tonnage surged by 11.8% in April and is now 7.5% up on a rolling annual basis at 219,478 tonnes.
