Stansted Airport staff have helped to generate £14,426 for the Essex and Herts Air Ambulance through a year-long fundraising effort.

The air ambulance has been the focus of the airport’s fundraising efforts after being chosen as its charity partner for the 2013-14 financial year, with events having included a run along the airport’s runway and a sponsored cycle ride.

To round off a the year of fundraising, Andrew Harrison, the airport’s managiing director, presented Sabi Blyth from the Essex and Herts Air Ambulance with a cheque for £3,500, representing the proceeds of a raffle held at the airport’s anniversary dinner to mark its first year of ownership by the Manchester Airports Group (MAG).

Mr Harrison said: “The airport was delighted to back the Essex and Herts Air Ambulance Trust as our charity partner over the past year, and by supporting them we have played our part in saving lives of people from across our region.

“The year of fundraising was a fantastic opportunity for all of us at Stansted to make a real difference and showcase the dedication, support and commitment of the airport and its staff.”

Sabi Blyth added: “We are absolutely delighted to receive a final cheque for £3,500 from Stansted Airport, bringing the total up to £14,426.

“I would like to take this opportunity to thank all the employees of Stansted for their support and generosity over the past year in organising some great events to raise vital funds for the life-saving helicopters.”
