Plans for one of a number of proposed solar farms in Wix have been rejected.
Kinetica Solar Ltd applied to create the renewable energy facility on land at Burnt Ash Farm off Spinnel’s Lane back in December.
Officers at Tendring District Council had recommended the plans, which would have produced enough power for 3,400 homes annually, for conditional approval.
But councillors on the planning committee turned down the application on Friday, stating the benefits did not outweigh the “substantial adverse impact” the farm would have on the “visual amenity and landscape character” of the surrounding area.
They backed concerns from more than 160 nearby residents and ward councillor Matthew Patten who were opposed to the scheme, one of four proposed solar farms in the Wix area.
