Emergency service cadets transported a “casualty” on a ladder more than 10 miles between two west Suffolk police stations to raise money for a hospice charity.
The 19 cadets took on the challenge from Ixworth to Bury St Edmunds police station to raise money for St Nicholas Hospice Care, which is based in the town.
The team of cadets were joined on the route by Sgt Anna Whybro, PC Paul Fox, PCSO Amanda Dodd and Kelly Cole, cadet coordinator.
The challenge, which saw the team carry a soft casualty doll on a ladder for the whole distance, was completed in three hours and 18 minutes.
Sgt Whybro said: “The cadets brainstorm at the start of the year about projects they can do and it was decided that this would be a good challenge. “The weather was a bit misty to start with but it improved and we enjoyed it.”
The emergency services cadets is a joint partnership cadet scheme combining fire and police services.
The scheme is currently operating in Haverhill, Lowestoft and Bury St Edmunds for up to 25 cadets, aged between 13 and 18, meeting for two hours a week.
